On the hunt for a new mug… Why is pink the colour associated with princesses?

From a very early age I’ve always loved the colour blue. I would only draw or paint with the colour blue. I would build duplo or Lego houses with only blue bricks. If I saw blue sweets I would always want them ones, blue bubble gum, blue foiled chocolate cups, blue dolphin sweets and blue football chocolates. I even carried blu tack around everywhere in my pocket.

My parents would get me and my older sister matching things. Outfits, dolls, prams, barbies everything. My sister was easier to buy for as her favourite colour was red and she also liked pink. I hated pink! So it was always harder to buy for me. My parents would have to search for blue things. I always had to have the boy dolls as they wore blue clothing or would have to have hand knitted items of clothing for them. One year for Christmas we had matching Minnie Mouse prams my sisters was all shades of pink and could be purchesed in most stores. Mine was lilac with shades of blue and green in the fabric. My mom had to search every store to get it because of the unusual colour.

It’s not so much like that now, I have found lots of beautiful blue outfits for my daughter. You can get blue dolls houses, prams, dolls, tea sets, mermaids, unicorns and much more. But when it comes to Disney princesses they are nearly always pink/purple or the merchendice has a pink background.

As a child my favourite princess was Jasmine from Aladdin, she had dark hair and wore blue. She, Cinderella, Belle (in her first outfit) and Snow White (top half of dress) were the only blue princesses around. There are more princesses that wear blue nowadays but why are the clothes/accessories mainly pink?.

Whilst food shopping in Asda a while ago I found a princess mug that I fell in love with. I use it everyday and guess what? It’s not pink! Yay.

I’ve had it for around four years now it’s my favourite and haven’t found one better.

As I’ve had it for so long I’ve decided to look for a new Disney Princess mug.

After looking online http://www.disneystore.co.uk I have found some lovely mugs. Lovely colours too.

My favourite are the Jasmine ones.

Unfortuently my nearest Disney store is 151 Miles away which is a nausance as I always have to order things online and sometimes have send things back as they are not what they seem.

So I’ve decided that I am going to go on a hunt around stores closer to home for the perfect Disney princess mug! I will keep you updated… Wish me luck.
